Colorado Ant Keeping

After high school I plan on moving to Colorado with my family to go to college there and live there afterwards. Any antkeepers from Colorado (or knowledgeables) have a list of species that live there? I'd love to do some research on them.

Make sure you are not within the park's borders when collecting - it's illegal to do so.

This doesn't rule out the possibility, however, of making 100% sure you're outside the borders and collecting from around the park. ;)
Possibly.

Re: Texan Antkeepers (Or Knowledgeables) Please Read (Again)

Well... I'm sorry... that's invasives for you. :( If you went to a more undisturbed environment (i.e. rural areas outside Houston, I understand Katy is a suburb of the city.), you may very well find more diversity than those three species. The whole point of calling a species "invasive" is if it is...

Texan Antkeepers (Or Knowledgeables) Please Read (Again)

Ok so I basically give up at this point. I can only find Solenopsis invicta queens, and Tapinoma melanocephalum/Parathechina longicornis workers locally here in Katy, Texas. I was wondering if anybody knew any hot spots (cities, towns, fields, parks) to find literally anything else. Also, if you kno...

Re: Pseudomymex Care

I would give them a test tube setup plugged with cotton and a little piece of airline tubing as the nest entrance. That should keep them happy. When in doubt, try Drosophila . I actually moved them into a natural nest with a flower for nectar, because I found a hollow palm branch that's kind of lik...

Pseudomymex Care

I have recently acquired a colony of pseudomyrmex, there's about 6 workers and one Queen. I'm not able to find much information about them online, so I would appreciate it if anyone could let me know absolutely anything they know about them. All I know is that they have a good grip and prefer to nes...

Heating and Moisturization for Tapinoma Melanocephalum

On Saturday, I'm heading out to get a Tapinoma Melanocephalum (ghost ant) colony. My plan was to moisturize and heat them like this: (The setup is 23x16x12 inches, with 5 inches of dirt going up from the bottom. A few tropical plants on the top. This is the exact same setup I have for my Camponotus ...

Re: Queen Care

Tomorrow, I'm going to pick up my Camponotus sp. queen that I bought off of GAN. She had two workers, but the second one died. I'm going to start them off in an AC Test Tube Portal V2. This is what's in it: top left: water tube, bottom left: sugar water tube, top right: empty tube, bottom right: qu...
