Re: Florida carpenter ant queen?... In Pennsylvania?!?!
A social parasite, great... I don't have another colony she can take over... Do you think anyone would like to buy her, or should I just let her go? She is absolutely beautiful, and I feel like letting her go would be a waste. Also I think she's a Formica Aserva.

Florida carpenter ant queen?... In Pennsylvania?!?!
Today I found several queens, one of which appears to be a florida carpenter ant queen. However, I'm in Dingmans ferry Pennsylvania... Is it normal for them to be up this far? Have I misidentified her? Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Should I hibernate my colony in a terrarium?
I have a small colony of myrmica sp, and now that there's snow on the ground here in NJ I realised I should let them hibernate. The problem is, their outworld is a terrarium with springtails, snails, and isopods along with living plants and moss. Should I put the whole setup in a cold room, or would...

A funny thing my ants did
So I was watching my myrmica sp colony, which is still only 5 workers strong and in a test tube. They were wild caught tho, so I have to feed them with a test tube portal. Anyway I put a cricket leg in there for them and they check it out a bit, but they seem more interested in their honey water. Bu...

Re: Praying mantis babies!!!
Carefull tho, if you keep them close together there is a good chance they'll eat each other!... Yeah, I let most of em go except for five witch i kept separate. four died of unsuccessful molting, and the last one recently died of unknown causes. I did find another egg sac, so I will see if it hatch...

Re: Spot the mistakes!
It looks like no one has actually tried to list all of the inaccuracies they could find yet so I'm gonna give it a shot! 1. I have never heard any ant keepers refer to nuptial flights as "flying ant season." 2. It is not something the general public should "brace themselves" for. 3. Unless there is ...

Re: Crazy Idea!
Maybe, if the queen is much bigger than the workers and there aren't any aggressive ants that could invade that area I think it's worth a shot! Although I feel that some workers might start moving the brood to a new location without the queen...
