Re: general info about semi claustral queens

You're setup looks great to me for semi-claustral. A covered nesting spot with a water source. A mini outworld (test tube portal), and food. Nicely done! :) Other considerations: 1. Optional heat source. Sometimes a little added heat will help the colony grow/develop a little faster. Be careful thou...

Re: multiple question

Heat cables with Omni Nests: Most people place the heat cable along one side of the Omni Nest, which allows for a heat gradient in the nest. As for oecophylla smaragdina, I would advise against housing them in an Omni Nest. Arboreal ants would do better in a larger terrarium of some kind with abilit...

Re: ooper's Camponotus modoc colony (#2)

How are they doing? Unfortunately, this colony did not survive. I have another C. modoc colony that I started a few months back. My brother-in-law works at an Apple Store (as in iPhone) and texted me a picture of an ant that he thought was a queen that had wandered into the store. He was able to pu...

Re: Messor Barbarus Info

Note that it may take them several days, even weeks, before they will move in. Just be patient ;) They actually did it in 4 hours haha The queen was the last one to move but the ants were forcing her to move to the hybrid nest. They started to explore the outworld immediately and they seem very hap...

Re: Messor Barbarus Info

40 is sufficient for the move. I would "offer" them the Hybrid nest and allow them to move in at their own convenience. Make the Hybrid more attractive by keeping hydrated and covered (in the dark).
