Re: Double Cloning Queen

I’m not exactly sure what you mean, because pretty much every ant species can produce their own (unfertilised) queens... Unless you mean that they are able to produce fertilised queens without a nuptial flight? Yessir. Sorry, I meant that they are able to make their own, fertilized queens. They can...

Double Cloning Queen

I've always loved the idea of Long Horn Ants (a.k.a black crazy ants) and their ability to produce their own queens, however black crazy ants do not live in Oregon where I live. As far as I know, these are the only ants cabable of this amazing ability. Are there any other ants that do this? And what...

Re: Stressed Out Ants, Is It Too Late?

Good news, all. The ants have moved back into a test tube. I can tell, they are still a little scared, but I think over a week of no disturbance, they will be back to normal. Thank you for all the suggestions and help.

Re: Stressed Out Ants, Is It Too Late?

Its all good! Ants are hardy, especially if they already have workers. Just put a drop of honey right outside the straw, and make sure they have a constant supply of water. Force moving them is the easiest way to kill a colony, just let them chill! And fill them up! Fat ants = happy ants! :D If the...

Stressed Out Ants, Is It Too Late?

This is my first and only ant colony. A small tetramorium colony around 20-30 workers. I got too eager and tried to persuade them into a nest much too early. They are now living in a very small section of drinking straw and refuse to come out for anything. I really need to get them into a new test t...

Ant Size Chnage

I believe that my ants are tetramorium, atleast that is what I was told, and the queen looks like a tetramorium. However, wild tetramorium that I have been finding are probably 1.5x bigger than mine. My colony is rather new (25-40 workers), so I am wondering if my colony is Tetramorium at all, and i...

Even if it's black.the fact that they aren't moving out at all speaks for their relative comfort.
So I should cover them up again and leave them be?

Grey cotton is normal and nothing to be alarmed about.
Even if it is almost black?

Re: Ants Not Moving

I have been trying to get my ants to switch test tubes for a month now. Their cotton is turning grey from mold. I have used bright light and even removed the cotton at the entrance to the tube so that the only place they can really go is to the new tube, but they won't moce. Mold will take over soon...

For the time being, you should just leave them there. They don't want the new nest yet.
How long should I wait before I get worried about food and such? They don't seem to be very curious about the new nest and haven't really explored at all
