Pacific Northwest Bug Group
I am considering starting a Pacific Northwest Facebook group for people who keep bugs. I am not only interested in ants, but also spiders, beetles, and whatever other bugs people are keeping. I really think it would be cool to be able to connect, share ideas, and meet other insect and arachnid keepe...

Re: Name your favorite ant species
Black crazy ants, Paratrechina longicornis, for sure. The fact that they can indefinitely produce and use their own queens is so cool. I have wanted to find a queen for years now, but I can never find one. It would just be so cool to have a colony that makes it's own egg producing queens. Does anyon...

Queens: Monomorium?, Incestual Bypassing Question
We have a composter in our backyard, and there is a very peculiar colony who lives directly under the lid of this composter. I am trying to figure out if this colony is a little Monomorium colony. The ants there with the larger gasters I believe are the queens. There are quite a few of them, so I am...

Ant Queen ID, Oregon, Lasius?
Found this queen in Woodburn, Oregon on August 2nd. She is around 1cm. Found her walking around a parking lot. She crawled into a drain before I could get her, and then crawled back out a bit later. She has a little pile of eggs. ID please. https://i.imgur.com/kpp8ZMq.jpg https://i.imgur.com/rLzcx8G...

Southern Maine Queen ID
The queens were captured on July 15th and are around 6-7mm long. Workers 4-5mm. We were in Freeport, Maine and were looking under promising logs and debris for colonies. We flipped over one broken log and found a colony living inside. There were at least 4 visible queens and many workers. We kidnapp...
