Ants Hibernating Near Mold

Hi all, My colony has become rather dormant, so I believe that they are hibernating. Unfortunately, their test tube set up has become very moldy but they don't seem to have any interest in moving. I have their test tube connected to a small outworld and another test tube with water and clean cotton ...

Can't Tell If Lasius or Tetramorium

Hi all, Can someone help me ID my colony? Found the queen in NYC. My best guesses are Lasius Americanus or Tetramorium Immigrans, but I can't really tell. https://imgur.com/a/IkTZav2 Trying to figure this out now mainly because they became very inactive in the past couple weeks. I guess they're hibe...

Will My Colony Rally?

Hey all, Need some encouragement here. For some reason, frequently when I feed my test tube colony a meal worm, they bring it back to their brood and then just leave it there, where it gets all moldy. So I keep linking their test tube to a second test tube, and pray that they eventually move to the ...

Re: Seeking Advice: Ants Living Near Moldy Meal Worm Carcass

I just want to check back in here. After they did this a third time, I decided to try to get the carcass out with tweezers. BAD MOVE. The colony freaked out. I caused a huge panic, suddenly tons of ants booked it out of the tube, and now, after a half hour of trying to frantically get everyone back ...

Seeking Advice: Ants Living Near Moldy Meal Worm Carcass

Hi all: I fed a young colony a meal worm. Unfortunately, they brought its carcass deep into the test tube where they live, and it has been sitting next to their larvae etc. now for more than a week, and it's starting to get moldy: https://imgur.com/a/NRhqrqr I'm not sure what to do. Do I just leave ...

Re: Queen Ants Eggs Are Not Hatching

Thanks for the identification! Will do. Is it normal for eggs not to hatch for so long? Is that just a weather thing?

Re: Queen Ants Eggs Are Not Hatching

Thanks! Here are two photos. One is of the workers over the eggs a week ago. The queen was hiding. The other is from the queen from last year when her eggs were growing into larva and pupa. They are active in the sense that they move around and seem to eat the food I give them, but I'm not sure how ...

Queen Ants Eggs Are Not Hatching

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can give me some insight as to why my Queen's eggs are not developing into larvae. I think the species is some type of pavement ant, tetramorium. I found her in New York City. I wanted to upload a picture, but it's saying the file is too big. In any event, I caught the que...
