Re: for the queen hunters

How many queens do you think based on your experience should be a good mark in order to start a good set of colonies?

My biggest fear as a newcomer to the hobby its to end too short on queens and realize the mistake too late on the season and have to wait a whole year to try again!

Re: What glue to use?

I'm going to use PLA... I think that using silicone for the formicarium will work better because Cyanoacrylate will affect the clear acrylic, i will hate to get a nice print, good fit on the parts and then crappy acrylic with fogged areas on the formicarium and outworld because of the super glue!

Re: What glue to use?

I guess that one option could be hot glue (like the one selling at hobby storrs for crafts) or just aquarium silicone as just suggest... Probably hot glue will do good holding the screen on the firmucarium for the sponge and the acrylic piece on the top and for the connectors to the tubes i can use ...

What glue to use?

I'm working on the design of my first formicarium, going for the 3d print way so i can generate more sections as it is needed, I have on the past created designs composed of multiple parts printed separately and then or glued or bolted together and I will be using the same design process on the form...

Re: Did alate ants live on the colony all the time?

If it was not because they are ferocious little beasts I will try to keep a colony, but I have witnessed first hand how bad it can get with them so I pass on the FireAnts!!! On the other hand I have see what I believe is a colony of Florida carpenter ants (Red head an...

Did alate ants live on the colony all the time?

Hello, I'm new to the ant keeping idea and I'm starting to get things ready to give it a try on the next spring-summer with some Camponatus floridanus... But let go back to my original question, today the younger of my kids were playing outside and found a huge anthill of Solenopsis invicta (small r...
