I find a bunch under rocks and logs, and bring a couple collection vials with me as well as featherweight forceps for grabbing them without harm. You can literally find them just wandering around, though. Not as complicated as you think. Good luck and happy anting! :)

So I've been trying the Antmaps...but I can not for the life of me figure out how to get a list of ants in the different areas. I have a tip for Prenolepis imparis:

I find the colonies all the time in dead tree stumps, so you might be able to find some just-flew queens in them. Of course, their behavior may change where you live because I don't live too close to you but more than likely that will not change much.

I'll list some food to try giving: Sugar sources: -Sugar water -Honey (Camponotus however usually prefer sugar water more) -Hummingbird nectar -Fruit (apples are used a lot as fruit) Protein sources: -Mealworms -Super worms -Crickets -Cockroaches These are all common foods that usually work for ants...

Aww that's too bad. Were they on nests in dirt and/or sand? I'll try it on some concrete nests or nests in the road next spring if so.
