Feral ants

Hi all, got a few of these little ones wandering round my apartment at the moment, Essex, UK. Just wondering what they are :) Maybe 4mm long. http://i.imgur.com/ExgmEdo.jpg http://i.imgur.com/UiMfzjQ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/kbuY8bH.jpg http://i.imgur.com/8jpzNSz.jpg I thought some of my ants had stag...

Re: Help!!

A claustral queen survives and raises her nanitics by breaking down the flight muscles in her thorax, as well as from proteins from consumption before her nuptial flight. It is unlikely that she will have enough reserves to raise another batch of workers. You'd be best off releasing her back where y...

Re: Would this work as a founding chamber?

To be fair, this only uses about 7g of PLA :P and about another 1g for the lid
So in terms of materials its only about £0.15 :)

Side note, I have formicarium designs already that work with this sort of interlocking connections.

Would this work as a founding chamber?

https://i.gyazo.com/404b46db53d6c4d4c511b05db8e095a8.png Been tinkering around in CAD, and made this based off of Caswal's Modular Ant Formicarium http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:476168 Would this work as a test tube replacement? Would like some opinions before I waste my time printing any :) The ...

Re: Queens eggs are seemingly gone.

I'd suspect that more likely the eggs are hidden in the cotton, my L. niger and L. flavus queens have both done that to me several times.

There is a chance that she could have eaten them though.

Re: Abandon nest?

It was more a case of stopping them getting settled rather than forcing them to move. There was still a lot of back and forth with the cocoons so I just nudged them into deciding it wasnt a good place to nest after all :P I've changed the water tube now anyway. It's almost full so if they do decide ...
