Re: Price

they're actually discontinuing these nests anyway so price hardly matters anymore :P

having said that, I'd imagine the price of these is so high because of manufacturing time, I can't imagine that would take anything less than 10 hours to print decently

Re: Possible stackable nest design?

The blue (or black in the last photo) bit on the sides should hopefully clip in and hold the nests together, I may need to adjust that though

Re: Possible stackable nest design?

the front is open for an acrylic sheet, there isn't anywhere in the nest they can hide away :)

Possible stackable nest design?

So.. given that I can't seem to control myself with getting multiple colonies, pretty soon as they start growing I'm going to run out of desk space to keep them. I need to expand upwards! Been tinkering (pardon the pun) in TinkerCAD for an hour or some and come up with this. Thoughts? The bottom lay...

Feral ants

Re: Help!!

A claustral queen survives and raises her nanitics by breaking down the flight muscles in her thorax, as well as from proteins from consumption before her nuptial flight. It is unlikely that she will have enough reserves to raise another batch of workers. You'd be best off releasing her back where y...

Re: Would this work as a founding chamber?

To be fair, this only uses about 7g of PLA :P and about another 1g for the lid
So in terms of materials its only about £0.15 :)

Side note, I have formicarium designs already that work with this sort of interlocking connections.

Re: Ant Trapping?

It could work I guess, but you'll probably find that the queen ant will find the test tube entrance too open and dismiss your tube as suitable nest location.
