Re: Ants as feeder- suggestions?

Workers can live for a year or more. If your frog eats 20 ants a day that'd mean you'd need a colony of a few thousand ants and a queen that lays an average of 20 eggs a day year round (some species hibernate) to be sustainable and that's assuming none die for other reasons. Given brood can take a m...

Re: Take a closer look.

Back yard turtles? We're they about 17 years old and the martial art variety? Sometimes made of plastic and with genetic drift? Any how that's very exciting I remember reading that 1m cube of soil from an average garden might contain more sources unknown to science than there are species of plants a...

Re: Frustrating Laws (Hoping for Heated topics and debate)

RIFA - You should also consider the idea of pandemics for ants it's not gaialogically good idea for evolution to produce only one species from competition even a hyperadaptive one like humans so if there's a virus or bacteria or parasite that appears it might be capable of accidentally eliminating t...

Re: Ants as feeder- suggestions?

I love the idea but I think it's doomed to fail, you would need a very large colony to absorb the losses of feeding some to a frog I'm assuming a frog can eat a few grass hoppers per day and you'd need an ant colony that eat twice that to be able to sustain losses, any colony that size might attack ...

Re: Ants in Media

I was on another forum for about 3 years nothing to do with ants but that's where my forum experience comes from. As for ant fora I'm only here so far, I've seen there are others but there's nothing that's really grabbed me yet. I tend to be 'brand loyal' when it comes to picking where I spend my ti...

Re: Ants in Media

all the stats on the site are above average really. Its nothing less than expected. (depending on the forum) What i assume goes on is most of the people come on and ask for ID help with their ant. Then they part ways with their colony. I have no problem with this, or helping them ID their ant knowi...

Ants in Media

I've been on this site for 2 weeks now and wow I overestimated what goes on here. I know we're here for Ants but honestly the boredom has been setting in for a week. I'm still a newbie even though I have 4 times the average number of posts per user, really 6 is a shockingly low number and shows just...

Re: Wasp wannabe ant!

Wasps will live underground, I found a wasp nest that had moved into an abandoned rabbit warren once, bad bad day :( My clumsy foot went into the hole and into the nursery while I was paying attention to more pressing matters like getting a ball out from a tree.

Re: JohnyDL Journal [3 - formicarum parts]

Totally forgot to mention the ants in the bottom left corner of the parts image, the left pair are the workers smallest above largest bellow for Lasius Niger, (according to AntKeepers.com) and the pair on the right is the same deal but for the queen, I only know that the lengths are correct otherwis...
