Pretty sure this is Tapinoma.
Could be. I'm terrible at IDs. I normally only keep Camponotus, but when she walks right to you it's like she's asking to be caught.

New Queen

Caught this little lady while I was working on my motorcycle. She was just moseying along the pavement next to my bike. Caught at 3pm in Illinois. Just a little less than half a centimeter so just a little less than 5 mm. I was thinking Tetramorium but I'm terrible at IDs so I'll wait for Batspiderf...

Re: Cale's Camponotus pennsylvanicus colony

I have been keeping track of this thread and it sucks that happened to the colony. Hopefully the brood boost will go as planned. I've so sooo much research on the species even b4 I caught the 2 queens as they were one of my most wanted. The byFormica nectar you use, is that the Sunburst nectar? I'v...

Re: Cale's Camponotus pennsylvanicus colony

So over the weekend I found two Camponotus pennsylvanicus queens finally! :-) this species was at the top of my list to keep...well, actually number two. Camponotus castaneus (I hope I spelled that right) is my number one. Since I have caught them they have both laid a couple more eggs each. Would ...

Is she still alive?
No she didn't make it unfortunately. The silver lining is the colony would have been destroyed by our bulldozer anyway, but it doesn't really make it better. I had high hopes she would make it, but it just wasn't meant to be.

Re: A very sad day!

I had a growing colony of Camponotus that suffered a full on collapse within two days. Managed to get the Queen and a worker to move into a test tube with the two pupae she had and when I was disassembling the formicarium to clean it I discovered them nesting in the cotton. I'm pretty sure that's wh...

Re: Well, this is one big ant...

I'm pretty sure this one is a queen ( C. pennsylvanicus ). More pictures would help to confirm this. I agree with batspiderfish. I have four of these queens in test tubes right now all with eggs. More pictures would definitely help but if she is like the ones I caught I put put them in test tubes i...

Re: Cale's Camponotus pennsylvanicus colony

How many eggs and lava does your queen have? maybe your workers will be replenished? I hope your colony succeeds. Basically full on colony collapse. I have one worker with two pupae. I managed to get her to move back into a test tube so we will see how they do in there with an attached test tube po...

Re: OH-KY-IN-IL-MI Nuptial Flight Sightings

I can't make this up...she caught another Camponotus in that frigging cactus. That makes 3 Camponotus and 1 Formica. https://i.imgur.com/2VF3dJa.jpg The second one she caught laid two eggs already. https://i.imgur.com/U0tvhCG.jpg The first one hasn't yet but the Formica has a nice little clutc...

Re: OH-KY-IN-IL-MI Nuptial Flight Sightings

I'm kind of ashamed right now that my girlfriend is having better luck than me at finding queens. She just found another Camponotus queen in her cactus pot this morning.
