Re: 3D printed?

I don't believe the mesh is 3D printed. I bought some scratch and dent items that were not fully assembled and was sent a small sheet of the mesh to cut and glue to the items. It seemed to high quality to have been 3D printed and I don't think it would be very cost effective to 3D print that mesh ei...

Re: Crazy Idea!

I had thought about something similar for a colony that has alates. What I wanted to do was have a large outworld outside with a fluon barrier my ants couldn't cross to escape but the winged males and females could fly out of.

Re: What is a good camera?

If you are dead set on buying a camera there really isn't much difference between the big names these days. I use a Nikon D300 for all my underwater photography. I use Nikon because that's what I grew up using and it's what I'm used to. Canon is just as good with the only noticeable differences bein...

UPDATE- she has came out of hibernation about a month ago and has laid no eggs.
Give her time. My Camponotus pennsylvanicus took about two months to lay eggs after hibernation and even when she did there were not that many.

Re: Girlfriend caught a queen today

I've never kept any Formica before. Anything terribly different from keeping Camponotus? I have her in a test tube setup in the dark currently. Is she parasitic? Do I need to provide brood to get her started?

Upload your photos to imgur or a similar photo sharing site. If you are on a computer and not a mobile device it will look like this. You want the circled one in my image that says BBCode. Copy and paste it into your reply.

Re: Girlfriend caught a queen today

Yeah she's smaller than my Camponotus species and there were no workers or brood. I was also leaning towards Formica before posting.

Girlfriend caught a queen today

Girlfriend caught a queen today in a founding chamber by herself while gardening. We live in central Illinois and the queen appears to be 11-12 mm(she wouldn't cooperate for omeasurements and keeps moving in the cotton each time I try). Used a sewing gauge in CM for the last picture where I was able...

Re: Question about "All you need package"

am i the only one who uses folded up paper towels and toilet paper as a hydration medium in my hybrid nest? Probably  actually I use the cotton because I have it readily available due to using it to plug ports or applying fluon. It's something versatile that I can use for multiple functi...
