I agree that Formica would be a good ant to meet your needs. Solenopsis is a tropical ant meaning they prefer warm temps 90* of the time. Where I am I don't have to hibernate my Solenopsis ants at all.

I’m looking for an ant species medium to large in size (over 3mm workers), with a fast colony grow rate (priority over size). Was planning to get carpenter ants but they reproduce quite slowly (up to 2 years to get a 20-50 colony). I’m planning to get local ants if possible (North Colorado, USA), s...

So I recently got my Omni nest from AntsCanada, when I put the tube that came with it in the nest entrance, it smelled really weird so I threw it away. Hobby stores like Michael's, or Hobby Lobby have them in the science section where you'll find other stuff like build your own rain forest, electronic projects, grow your own crystals, and so forth.

Do a check on what the species regular foods are and try to match it. I know sometimes they can have an issue with specific foods, others don't have an issue at all with any type of food and will either eat or not eat it. Also are they being kept at the right temperature? That can be a major issue ...
