Re: $

You should add a small bag of sand-clay-mix or some other substrate to every nest. Not only does it improve the way humidity spreads throughout the nest it also makes it easier to take pictures (because if you try to take a picture of ants in a very light colored nest - or even worse a white one - u...

Re: $

I was wondering why shipping was so high. The default cost is an additional 100$ on top of your already 100$ purchase. The cheapest one is around 40, but how do I know my package will arrive in one piece. AntsAustralia uses ytong & paints their nests for way cheaper than AC. + Shipping isn't crazy....

Re: A founding formacarium it would be good!

I have no idea how much space a trap jaw ant queen requires (they're pretty much unavailable in Europe which I don't consider a bad thing). There's probably some experienced people on Formiculture that can help you with this. For honey pots the issue is more that they need a ceiling for the repletes...

Re: Won't move

Watch the AntsCanada Carpenter ant tutorial. Take special attention to the point where he mentions how long they should live in a test tube.

Re: Water leaking thru cotton

In a test tube the water is kept inside the tube by negative pressure. If done right (no air bubbles in the water reservoir) the cotton is sucked further into the tube while the water evaporates from it's surface, causing the nesting space available to the colony to increase while the colony is grow...

Re: $

Prices have always been the weak point of the AC products. Regarding their customer base of most likely very young and inexperienced antkeepers that get their formicaria bought by parents with too much disposable income anyway it may not matter as much as you think it would, but it's still an issue....

Re: A founding formacarium it would be good!

Isn't the test tube portal supposed to be like a mini outworld for starting colonies? The test tube portal is one of the few "founding stage products" that make sense, but even it is just an accessory for the test tube setup and you could as well use an outworld immediately, although of course the ...

Re: SERIOUS PROBLEM WHAT DO I DO!!!!!!!

Ants are quite resistent to mold and unless they actively avoid it it most likely doesn't pose a threat. That little patch of mold is like nothing and it's probably just bacteria growing on the colony's toilet area. You can start worrying when the entire surface of the cotton is black but even then ...
