Re: Why its okay to release native ants
To clarify. I think releasing native ants is fine, but NOT non-native/exotic/invasive ants. I can't edit the post now, but any non-native ant I consider going into the "invasive" category. I can see how it might seem to imply ONLY invasive ants, but that wasn't my intention. I don't have any problem...

Why its okay to release native ants
Invasive ants are a whole 'nother topic...so I won't be talking about those. Though I don't think one should release invasive ants even if they are all over. But like I said, a whole different topic. But, let us focus on native ants which tend to be most common ants people keep anyway. The cliche ar...

Re: I know its "Ants"Canada...but...
Might be a good idea but just please don't make it the main content Yeah it definitely be side content is how I picture it. Maybe like a small bit of it or something, and MAYBE the occasional big update. Termites live a lot longer than ants, but also grow a lot slower so there wouldn't be as much t...

Re: Should I hibernate my colony in a terrarium?
Personally, I'd put the whole setup in the washroom. That is pretty cold enough to let ants hibernate. Actually wouldn't want to put them at freezing temperatures, since underground it doesn't actually freeze. Keep in mind, ants will still need water+(and maybe) food. Just in case you aren't aware. ...

I know its "Ants"Canada...but...
Seeing that AntsCanada lives in a pretty amazing place full of a variety of ants (though some are invasive)... What if he kept a termite species and showed them on his Youtube channel? I imagine where he lives there'd be some pretty amazing termite species. Not only are termites easier than ants (in...

Re: Empires of the undergrowth anyone?
It looks really high quality. Though personally waiting for more updates before going in. But, people who have it seem to love it and it does get very positive reviews on steam. I'm glad it seems to be a success for them, cause this game been excited for, for a while

Re: Vendayn's Acromyrmex versicolor journal (9-25-16)
I was feeding them quinoa seeds, dried rose petals and a couple other types of seeds. I tried oatmeal bits and they didn't like that surprisingly. However, I no longer have the colony. I'm moving out of state next year so I sold them to someone who lives near me. I can't take ants across state lines...

Re: Vendayn's Acromyrmex versicolor journal (9-25-16)
Well I dunno what changed. When I updated the other day I didn't actually look at them. Last time I actually DID look was a month or so ago. I kinda gave up on them and didn't pay any attention. So much fungus died and so little brood figured it was the end. Look yesterday, and they are literally al...

Re: Vendayn's Acromyrmex versicolor journal (9-25-16)
I don't have any recent pictures, but figured I'd update. I'll keep it short. The fungus all got moved to an 8 chamber setup and instead of a bunch of formicariums connected up its just one bigger sized one. A lot easier to manage. The fungus isn't really growing much though, it grows and dies and g...
