Help me secure my Founding Formicairum

Hello, just running into a bit of an issue with my Brachymryrmex Patagonicus colony. They're so small they can squeeze through the millimeter spacing in between the glass. I'm wondering how I can secure the formicarium so they can't get out. I also don't think the queen can get out so they won't be ...

Re: Hello!

Hello, great your getting into the hobby. For starters I would get basic necessities like Test tubes. Start with 5 or so. Always carry some kind of little container on you. Tonight for me I caught three queens leaving work(I didn't have a container so I had to use a soda cup tonight and hope they di...

Arizona (Phoenix) Nuptial Flight

Noticed a Nuptial flight this evening in Phoenix. Even though it hasn't rained in awhile I found many queens near my work in the Phoenix, Paradise valley area. Mostly saw Brachymyrmex species. I saw some Solenopsis Males as well. Be on the lookout near florescent lights that turn on when the sun goe...

Question about Nuptial flight and Drought

Hello! I live in a very hot area with temperatures reaching 120 degrees F. It hasn't rained in months and I'm wondering if nuptial flights would still occur. Its monsoon season now but it still has yet to rain so I've been discouraged to look for more queens. There are many colonies in my area and I...

Re: Moving colonies question

I've made a similarly titled post awhile ago. Another few questions. Trying to move my only remaining veromessor queen into another setup that's currently attached via test tube portal. The queen can tell the mold is bad and has already preemptively moved her brood near the entrance of the test tub...

Re: Dead queen, questions

From my experience, their diet should not have affected it unless there was a sudden change in what you fed them prior to the queen going into her "trance" (ill call it a trance because as mentioned by you previously, she isn't dead, yet...). The day before she went into the "trance" did you change...

Re: Dead queen, questions

You said she only had two worker? Well you don't want to move your ants into a formicarium until they have around 20 workers. Even though she had help it's very possible she died of stress due to the small amount of workers and moving... Also the temperature change could have played a large role in...
