Multi-Species Nuptial Flight - 8/26/2023 - Connecticut
If you are currently in Connecticut, look outside. The large swarms of small ants have stopped mostly, but the less compact swarms of larger ants, including carpenter ants is going strong. I have noticed at least 4 or 5 different species of ants in the process of a nuptial flight within the past hou...

Re: Questions and Feedback on Care of Tapinoma sessile Colony
There is no reason for them to keep aphids that can’t produce honeydew(They need living stems) Vaseline is crap. Use fluon for small ants like Tapinoma. Baby powder won’t work as well due to their size and weight compared to the baby particles. Some later formicaria I would suggest are acrylic nest...

Questions and Feedback on Care of Tapinoma sessile Colony
Hello, I have a colony of Tapinoma sessile. I acquired the colony from an existing colony, which had at least a dozen queens and probably at least a thousand workers. I collected two queens and around 30 workers. It has now been around 6 weeks since I acquired them, and they have been doing well. I ...

But I shouldn't actually place the food in the test tub, just in front of it, right?

Thank you. Should I place the droplet of sugar water inside the test tube? Or just outside of it in the test tube portal? And will the queens leave the test tube to eat the mealworm, or should I place it in their test tube?
Thanks again
Thanks again

HELP! Mass worker die-off. Left with no workers and three queens, and a number of eggs. How do I keep the queens fed?
As I said in the title, I currently have three queens, eggs, and no workers. I found them and a few workers next to each other under a small rock. I collected them and placed them in a test tube portal set-up. However, the workers died. The queens seem perfectly healthy. The problem is, now there ar...
