Re: My first Ant Keeping - What to feed now I have my first workers.

Freshly smooshed fruit flies are what my ants always accept, and honey for sugar source.

Re: Fruit fly trap question

Fruit fly trap question

Word on the internet is the most effective automated fruit fly trap is vinegar + dish soap in a container. Has anyone tried feeding fruit flies caught in such a manner to their ants? I ask because i assume dish soap soaked flies might be bad to consume, i guess im wondering if its possible to wash t...

Re: NEW Camponotus colony diet

I too have a new camponotus colony, 4 workers. They seem to 100% accept and hoard any fruit flies i give them. I've dropped 10+ into the test tube portal their tube is connected to today and they pick up each one and bring it back to the water cotton and store it where all the eggs and whatnot are. ...

First of all, you are leaving a paper trail for the police to find when you eventually become a serial killer, because I'm hearing some psychopathic stuff in here. Aside from that, i remember watching a video about an abandoned ant nest they filled with concrete and excavated, and it was craaaaazy h...

Queen stopped laying eggs

My tetramorium queen with ~30-40 workers that i caught last year during summer, hibernated for months during winter. Upon coming out of hibernation a month ago, there have been no new eggs, even though they appear to be healthy (moving around, havent died yet!). They have water, honey, sugar water, ...

Re: Can you feed liquid protein

lets assume i dont have insect blood laying around, because my freeze dried crickets dont likely have liquid blood in them, and its winter so theres not many insects to catch plus people say dont trust wild insects due to pesticides. I'm kind of worried that my ~35-40 worker tetramorium colony in a ...

Re: Ant Farmers in Vancouver, BC?

Yo, im in vancouver also, just started this year by catching a tetramorium queen.

There isnt much to do right now but come spring i hope we can coordinate ant sightings and find out which parks have which ant species! I would really like to have carpenter ants too because I hear they are huge.
