Crematogaster sp.

Although they belong to the Myrmicinae subfamily consisting of many stinging ants, Crematogaster have evolved a different strategy and use their stings to spread an odorous repellent instead of cause injury. I'll bet there is a colony living in whatever the swing is attached to.

Aphaenogaster sp.

Aphaenogaster are "fully" claustral -- the ones that aren't social parasites, at least.

What material is it? plaster of paris. It has had a problem with mould before i painted it I don't think there's anything wrong with plaster, although hydration can be an issue since it is absorbed so well by the material. Sometimes I feel that it's more about limiting the rate that water is soaked...

Myrmica cannot be identified to the species without use of a microscope. Myrmica rubra is one exception, but we would need to see the lobes on the front of the head, near the antennal sockets.
