Ants get most of their moisture from the air, so you only need to worry about the soil staying humid or slightly damp.

Niger and flavus group Lasius are not parasitic, and easy to keep.

So they did not touch the mealworms but shortly after cleaning those out I replaced them with cricket leg pieces and two of the workers where out there eating/gathering them up. I saw one of them come back to the queen and feed her. It looks like I will have a couple more workers next week. So Bat,...

Photobucket is now charging a subscription service before allowing images to be visible on 3rd party sites. I would recommend using a different host. Editing would be awesome.

I have no idea why this is an emergency, but this looks like a Formica social parasite. She will need pupae from another Formica nest.

Don't forget your measurements!

She should be able to remove the worker on her own. Trying to intervene will run a higher risk of injuring the queen.

Looks like a male Trachymyrmex to me.
