Update on my two colonies...

Have not been on in a while so i figured i would check in with a short update on my two colonies... My Camponotus Castaneus are up to 6 workers now. They still refuse to move out of the fetid tube they are in that has ran dry of water so i have left a tube of water in the out world next to their old...

So my Camponotus C is doing great. Just had a new worker added to the group so up to six workers now and the queen just layed a huge cluster of eggs so i am hoping to get a population explosion by next month. Carpenter ants make great starter queens but they need total darkness to lay eggs & will not lay them if they are moved a lot or catch you peeking at them and feel threatened or see a lot of light... You could try the normal method for speeding up any ants! Use some heat and apply it directly to the crack, slowly introduce it to be more hot and more hot. Any advice on what I could use as a heat source? Space heater works great in my bathroom, but mine is for heating the bathroom not luring out ...

Wait till you see lasius and leptothorax Fairly sure i have probably seen one of those if they are small... was looking for termites & ants yesterday. Found a colony of ants even smaller than the Tapinoma in the pics i posted here. They had smaller bodies but a more round shaped gaster than the Tap...

Are these flying now in Virginia? Cuz i am from Va. I could easily give it some eggs from my Tapinoma or does she need specific workers from a specific species.
