Re: Need help identifying a species of ant FL

Aphaenogaster. Probably A. carolinensis because of the short propodeal spines and smooth mesosoma.

Re: URGENT:PARASETIC QUEEN ANT

Looks like Tetramorium bicarinatum. Semi-claustral, not parasitic.

I think the first one is Dorymyrmex bureni and the second one is Dormyrmex insanus. The major looks like Pogonomyrmex badius to me
The second one (including the major) is Pheidole obscurithorax. Dorymyrmex insanus is in the Western United States :P

Re: Worker ant identification

I can't really make out a cone-like propodium on the first workers, why not Forelius pruinosus ? I was thinking the same thing, but James Trager said they "appear" to be Dorymyrmex . There looks to be several Dorymyrmex in my area, and these look like D. bossutus to me now. D. smithi , D. bureni , ...

Re: Dorymyrmex sp. journal

The first nanitic is obviously darker now and the second nanitic is about to eclose, if it didn't already. I took these pictures like 2 days ago. I fed them a lot of honey so the queens gaster got a lot larger lol. Also, since I see what the nanitic looks like, I am thinking this is not Dorymyrmex b...

Also, the other Dorymyrmex queen I caught that day is still alive and she is about to have her first worker as well. The ...

Re: Crematogaster journal

It has been over a month since the last update on this journal. The colony hasn't grown much at all, a couple workers died and a few more eclosed. There are 8 workers and 2 pupae. They never moved into the new test tube because apparently they would rather die than have to move. The test tube got ex...
