If it is a culture you have than I would say yes it is ok if it is wild caught you run the risk of anything it has come in contact with transferring toy our ants and colony. the reason for 5 min in microwave is it will get the temperature up to 180f and the heat is what kills the organisms in the sand . I seem to have great luck after dark at outdoor lit tennis courts hundreds of queens usually on nights after rain. This year my back yard was the best place. I am surrounded by a natural wetland area that is heavily wooded they fly to me for protection LOL!!!!!!! :lol:
