It was about 1a.m. when I found her btw. I see dozens of them at night but trying to track down the colony has yet to be fruitful. Minimal amounts of precipitation this morning may have something to do with it. Though it was not enough to soak through the forest canopy.

Castaneus are one of the few carpenters who will actually build nests underground. Makes it a bit harder to find. Here in the northern part of bama I have been seeking fallen trees with plenty of growth and it's in the clay and dirt that I found a few more. I have yet to find an active nest. Last ni...
