Re: My first colony - Lasius Niger

It was a disappointment. All had been going well. I had one queen with about 15 workers eggs etc and another who Had a large gaston, but hibernated without laying. I suspected she would have started to lay after hibernation. They were nearly ready to come out of hibernation as they were getting more...

Re: My first colony - Lasius Niger

Unfortunately my small colony has died. The queen was found in the out world and the workers etc were in the nest.

My queen in her test tube had eggs, but the test tube flooded. So I will have to wait until this years nuptial flights and try again.

Re: Omni nest vertical part identification

It's the large omni nest vertical. The small probably has the same part though.

Omni nest vertical part identification

I cleaned my omni nest vertical and once I put it back together I had 1 piece left over. I was hoping someone could tell me where it is meant to fit.

The picture won't attach. The part is a cross shape.

Re: what kind of ant species

See if there is a gan farmer near to you selling ant colonies or catch a queen during a nuptial flight.

Re: My first colony - Lasius Niger

I seem to be getting more workers each day. I have about ten now. They don't seem to be ready to hibernate yet either. They forage a little in the out world too. Mainly taking fish food (flakes). I say they, I have watched and think it is the same one or two who forage, while the others tend to quee...

Re: My first colony - Lasius Niger

My individual queens in test tubes died. But three I put in my omni nest vertical have co-founded my colony. I only did this due to lack of test tube setups available. I have at least five nantics. They were very active and have killed a fruit fly. I thought the fly was dead, but after putting it in...

Re: Live Protein

You may just need a higher number of crickets. This way more eggs will be laid, hatch and grow. Once you have enough they will have a constant supply. It may take time before the cricket colony is self sustaining.

As the colony of ants grows the cricket colony would need to grow too.
