Re: Need Risk Analysis Feedback for these Lasius' new floating Setup.

It looks like the ants could fall onto the ledge and walk away but for the rest, it looks amazing. I suppose you will either fill it with water (drowning ants) or use fluon / baby powder to keep them inside. For the rest, looks amazing. ;) Good point. I really gotta make sure the spacing is right s...

Re: Need Risk Analysis Feedback for these Lasius' new floating Setup.

Maybe you can put the smaller dish inside of the bigger dish? Then if you want to move the setup you can pick it up with the smaller dish and the bigger dish can keep any of the fallen ants. You can have a floating nest in a dish which is in a dish which is on a rack That is pretty much my current ...

Re: Need Risk Analysis Feedback for these Lasius' new floating Setup.

I would just keep an eye on the silver dish, as I am not sure if Lasius is “intelligent” species like weaver ants and fire ants who make bridges to get to places. Also, you would need some sort of “repellent” to keep teh ants from foraging in the silver tray,or else you might get some trash piles t...

Re: Need Risk Analysis Feedback for these Lasius' new floating Setup.

First of all I must congratulate you on this amazing build! Currently my only concerns are if/when the ants fall off, how will they get back into the main nesting/foraging area? Maybe make a larger dish for the tree? Great idea! however I need the inside dish to be pretty small so i can move the ne...

Yeah you're right - that might be a huge issue... As I said what I am hoping for is that if an ant falls into ...

Need Risk Analysis Feedback for these Lasius' new floating Setup.

Hello again, so winter is about to fade soon in Europe and with that the next ant season is about to begin. And since my ants are currently chilling in the basement I thought it would be a good idea to make them a new home - and I might have gone a bit overboard with it: Images (without food dish) h...

ParAnt (ant keeping ios-, android- and web-app)

Hello fellow ant lovers, I got into keeping ants a few year ago and I am enjoying it a lot. I would currently still consider myself to be completely clueless about most things compared to you guys, but at times i am able to impress friends and family with my completely irrelevant ant knowledge. Howe...

Re: Ants won't leave moldy test tube

Yes, there is. It's under the forum rules. I've already given him the link to the youtube video. By the way, for how long did tou leave the light on to make them move? I'm asking this because mine took over a week to move. You just have to be very patient. Hi, also about a week. Maybe a few days lo...

Re: Ants won't leave moldy test tube

Hi there. Did you have any luck in getting your ants to take up residence in a shiny new test tube? The reason I ask is because my young son has recently acquired a small colony (also Lasius Niger) and we have been trying to get them to move into a clean tube too. We have tried using light to encou...

Shine a bright fluorescent or LED light on the colony, and cover up the new test tube. Place the old test tube at a higher elevation than the new test tube. This will encourage the ants to move into the new test tube.
Thanks, I'll try that (:
