I caught this queen September 12th, my guess she belongs to the Temnothorax family...Though I have no idea, hope to get some help on the species so I may provide the best possible care.

Fall of my Camponotus Queen
Today my queen has passed away. I had a strange urge to check on her and found her dead in the test tube, leaving behind 7 eggs that will never see life or their queen. The blow is more devastating then I could realize. However in the light of bad news I managed to get a hold of a GAN farmer and wil...

Re: Nuptial Flight Sightings: New York
I have been actively searching for more queens. Unfortunately the camponotus queen might not be able to produce a colony in spite of my best efforts. Any tips on finding more queens? Or is it possible that anyone in new york have to many queens on their hands? Just really want to have a colony so I ...

Re: Camponotus Trouble
Well part of me hopes that if that is the case it isn't on the cotton in the dirty tube. However it seemed she was never a fan of the cotton. Most times she would have them on the floor of the tub or sides. Just really hoping that maybe she just was hiding them. I checked again now since I am back f...

Camponotus Trouble
Hello it is me again! Well as I asked last time about the test tube issue it has been resolved...But she has refused to move. I counted that she had laid 5 eggs. After connecting her test tube with a clean one I put her back in a dark place. To my horror I have seen only 2 eggs that she is tending t...

Test Tube Problem
So my black camponotus is doing well. She has laid about 5 to 7 eggs and though they haven't hatched she hasn't eaten them... However the water end of the test tube where the water is has dried up. Instead of cotton balls I had to think on the spot. But how would I add water or should I? Need some s...

What's Next?
So earlier I had made a post asking if I had caught a queen during my adventure. Since then I had her in a test tube set up and it appears she has laid a clutch of eggs. They haven't hatched yet but I would like to know what is the next step for care not only for hopefully this future colony but que...

Is this a Queen Ant?
Hello so on the walk home today from the park I had noticed what may be a queen ant. Not taking the risk to lose her I caught her in a empty pringles container till I can get a test tube. It seems she might be a carpenter ant but that's the best guess. Here are some photos to help out. However it do...
