Re: Is this a Queen?
This is a queen (quite certain) of the subfamily Psuedomyrmecines; Tetraponera, and it roughly looks like the Rufonigra species. (Arboreal ants, tall long set up is suggested; also these ants are semi-claustral meaning you must feed them insects and honey) ps: These ants aren't native to Hawaii so y...

Re: Pheidole queen - 5 months no nanitics
Hi Hawkeye, does it speifically have to be cat food? I tried using the dog food and the queen doesn't budge, what other options are viable? (excluding insects and boiled eggs)

Pheidole queen - 5 months no nanitics
I have a Pheidole Pieli queen and kept her captive for approx 5 months, as I caught her late October of last year (on the floor moving her wings around.) For the first 2 weeks of captivity, she laid no eggs and was pulling on the cotton, which I assume she was trying escape as she was housed in an A...

Re: Identification
Hey congrats,
You have caught a Lasius Niger, I also keep these and are quite easy to keep, just keep it in the dark often and give very little honey to her, and she will thrive. When nanitics arrive, I suggest feeding cricket legs, cockroaches and brown sugar, as my colony enjoys this,

Re: 2 Queens indentifications also some help.

Before hibernating, just remember to feed them regularly. But if they stopped eating and the queen has stopped laying egg...
