Re: 5 mm Ant Queen caught in Singapore
The length of Pheidole is around 5-6mm Unfortunately this is not true. While I'm sure there are lots of Pheidole queens that are 5-6mm there are a ton of Pheidole queens that are much larger or smaller. Few Examples: Pheidole rhea 15mm Pheidole obscurithorax 10mm Pheidole navigans 3mm Pheidole vora...

Re: Dorymyrmex queen?
I'm not very good at some of these obscure Solenopsis / Pheidole , but she kinda looks like Pheidole morrisi to me (which is common in Florida). You can tell she isn't Dorymyrmex by the two petiole nodes (dolichoderines only have one, and it's often hard to see.) Doing some research, this looks to ...

Re: 3 Queen Ants
#3 definitely looks to be Acromyrmex. The other 2 might be Tetramorium spp. but I am really unsure. It would also help if you could get clearer pictures.

Re: ID this 2 ants
These are all clearly Messor spp. I would be careful of using color to ID them. There are many different color morphs in most species. There are also 8 species of Messor in Portugal that are documented. I would be careful not to jump to conclusions.

Re: 4 Ids for Queen ants in Tropics
Just an FYI 1cm = 10mm. You said that the Carebara male was 1.5cm or 150mm. If he was 150mm he would be 15cm long which is far bigger than the biggest ant.

Are you sure this is Pogonomyrmex rugosus? It looks too dark to be Pogonomyrmex rugosus to me. There are tons of species of Pogonomyrmex and quite a few are almost identical.Batspiderfish wrote:Pogonomyrmex rugosus.

Re: Aphaenogaster sp. or Mrymica?
I it might have helped if the ID request came with a measurement. ;) Agreed. Is it possible this is Manica ? Not in Nova Scotia. Manica is located, according to Antwiki.org "Four of the six species in this genus are found in western North America. One species is endemic to Japan and the other is Pa...

Re: Aphaenogaster sp. or Mrymica?
The club-like ends of the antennae and proportionate size of the mesosoma suggest Myrmica , to me. Are you sure? The queen in the pic looks like the Aphaenogaster queens I've seen. It would probably help if we could get pictures of the head and closer pictures of the body I it might have helped if ...

Re: Two Queen ID (Singapore) South East Asia
I've kept Tapinoma sessile and the first queen seems to have too big of a gaster and she seems too fat in general. Even the Tapinoma sessile queens in large colonies weren't bloated with eggs or food.
