The flights seem to be most likely for Campo at least if it hits 80. This next weekend (after the 4th) is looking promising.

Re: Raw honey, bad for ants?
Correct. Though it's difficult to control where bees fly. It's possible they fly to some area that was being sprayed

Re: No eggs for months.
Make sure there is a warm spot on the test tube (heat cable or something). Definitely feed her!!! Honey was good, but give her a cricket leg or something as well. 4 main things for laying: warmth, full, dark, humidity. If she was infirtle she would have died or laid male eggs by now. Sounds like she...

Does anyone know if there are any nuptual flights going on currently in the Vancouver area? If not, does anyone know when the nuptual flights generally begin for the species living around Vancouver? Last year, I found only 4 tetramorium immigrans queens in late August and they all were found on my ...

Re: Camponotus flights yet??
It is far too cold for ants to fly in WA. It needs to be steady in the upper 60s to get any sort of reliable flights. From what I am seeing, the next 10 days will not reach that temperature. Hopefully we get higher temperatures in 11 days! haha.

Re: Do ants do anything for pure pleasure?
Some ants really look like they are enjoy themselves when they are getting cleaned. Look like me when someone scratches my back really well, falling over and such. So that's something. Haha. Generally anything that we enjoy is there for an evolutionary reason, ants aren't selfish enough to abuse stu...

If you heated the entire tube then yet you cooked her. With heating, you can only heat a small part of their home. I only use heating cables so I can be specific where I heat them, then I only heat the entrance of the test tube so the ants can move the brood closer or further away as needed
